Diskuszucht Stendker Color Shades

100% of my Discus are from the Diskuszucht Stendker Hatchery or their descendants

Discus is my Hobby.   I do not make money keeping and selling Discus.

My hobby expenses are much greater than any return.  All funds that I
may receive from the sale of a Discus are used for electricity bills, Discus food,
 supplies, equipment and fish replacement.

I Work For Fish!

Please note, all prices are firm. I don't ask more for a fish for the purposes of bargaining. If you think a fish

I have is not worth my asking price, please don't buy it. If you would like to further discuss my listed fish

prices, looking to bargain on price or are seeking a lower quality Discus, please lets talk about this before

you travel all the way to my home.  Sometimes I have a few healthy lower quality Discus at a reduced price.

I fully understand that you will need to see the fish before you can make a buying Decision.

Terms of Sale:

Do to the special conditions required to keep Discus all sales are final. But, unlike shipped Discus, you can see what you buy. You can watch them eat. Normally, Discus shippers will only give you credit on a bad fish. Thus, additional freight charges are needed to recover. Freight on Discus is usually about $75.00. I will never  knowingly sell a bad Discus without full disclosure. I will give you my honest opinion on every fish I sell. This is my hobby!

I bag fish with Air only. I do not have pure Oxygen. Per my terms of sale, Ultimately, the transportation of Discus is the buyers responsibility

--------------------------------------------
I have had people successfully take home fish as far as Atlanta and Houston with the bag/ air method. If I have a Styrofoam fish box, I will be happy to give it to you. But, I recommend you bring a cooler with a bag method. On long drives, I suggest you check the fish on the way home. If needed, remove the rubber band, let new air in and reseal. As of this date, I have no knowledge of anyone, that has visited, needing to refresh the air.

I like to put adult Discus in a clean bucket.  Every hobbyist has one. If you bring a bucket, please bring an old clean bath towel. I use tape to secure the towel over the bucket. Groups of small fish also travel well in a bucket. The fish seem to have less stress then when bagged and they have more than enough O 2.  But most often, I bag juvenile Discus under 3.5".

What ever method is used, it is best not to let the fish in transport get below 78 degrees. Lets talk about the method of transportation before you come. I will do my best. As of this date, that has been enough. I suggest that you go directly home with your fish. Stop at the store before you come.

Please, when you get home, transfer your fish to a bucket and add your tank water slowly for a period of an hour. This will prevent shock and minimize stress. In my opinion, floating a bag in the tank is for Feeder Goldfish.

I only accept cash

My fish have not been destroyed with color enhancing hormones. Thus, they will color up naturally during the first 6 months and beyond.

When I have young imported Discus I keep them for a period of time with TLC. And,

they must be eating Tetra Bits and frozen Bloodworms very eagerly before I can allow fish out of my fishroom. I want people to start with health strong fish. I will not knowingly sell a sick Discus.

I keep my non spawning fish in 100% tap water with a high PH. I only use a conditioner for chlorine etc. Discus do not like changes in water parameters. Young fish need the minerals in the water to grow. Young growing Discus like a temperature of 84 to 85 degrees. Good water changes and a clean aquarium is important for Discus growth and health.

Discus can not tolerate even the smallest amount of ammonia in the water. New aquariums usually take longer to become well seeded with bio activity than many people think. I will be happy to give you a bag of filter culture (dirt). It is important to have a ammonia test kit and be prepared to do large water changes for 45 days or more.

Use great caution when mixing fish from different sources. I view Pet Shop water as  Biohazard.

On this page, you will find a link to the online forum Discus as a Hobby.

Many people that I talk to have acquired their knowledge from books written in the late 70s.

The methods of successful Discus keeping have evolved greatly since then. The hobby is only about 30 years old.

Warning: There are many Discus sellers that ship poor quality Discus.
I will be happy to suggest some reputable Discus sellers.
